The Ram 2500 is the three-quarter-ton heavy-duty pickup for buyers who tow big trailers or carry loads a half-ton cannot. It comes with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 or the high-output Cummins turbo diesel six, in regular, crew and Mega Cab bodies. New for 2027, the Power Wagon can finally be ordered with the diesel.
The Great Lakes take
The 2500 suits Great Lakes buyers with large trailers: horse trailers in Kentucky, fifth-wheel campers on I-75 and equipment haulers in Ohio farm country. It starts at $48,040, with a 405-hp 6.4-liter HEMI standard and a 430-hp Cummins diesel with 1,075 lb-ft optional. Ram rates the HEMI to tow up to 17,740 lbs and the diesel up to 20,000 lbs. Cold starts matter in a Michigan winter, and the $245 Cold Weather Group adds an engine block heater and a winter grille cover. The Heated Steering Wheel and Seats Group is $445. Power Wagon can now be ordered with the diesel and has up to 14.2 inches of clearance for the hills of West Virginia. A $835 Payload Upgrade Package raises payload to 4,580 lbs.
01
Diesel arrives in the Power Wagon
For 2027 the Power Wagon can be ordered with the 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output diesel, which produces 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft. Ram rates it at nearly 20,000 pounds of towing and almost 3,000 pounds of payload. It keeps the locking axles, disconnecting front sway bar and 34-inch tires of the gas truck.
02
More payload from a new package
Choose the 6.4-liter HEMI and the new $835 Payload Upgrade Package, and the 2500 gets a 3500-style frame, leaf springs and an anti-spin rear axle. GVWR rises from 10,000 to 11,040 pounds, for a preliminary payload of up to 4,580 pounds.
03
Coil-spring ride on a heavy-duty truck
The standard 2500 uses a five-link coil rear suspension, and an automatic-leveling rear air suspension is available on Rebel, Laramie, Limited and Longhorn. Ram calls the setup class-exclusive. The result is a smoother unloaded ride without giving up rated capacity.
04
Tow tech that helps you hitch and haul
Optional equipment includes a digital rearview mirror with a tow mode, trailer reverse steering control, a surround-view camera and trailer tire-pressure monitoring. Heated, power-folding, power-telescoping trailer-tow mirrors with memory are available.
05
Off-road options at three price levels
Warlock is the value pick at $57,585, Rebel adds more hardware, and Power Wagon is the specialist. All three are crew-cab 4x4s with the 6.4-liter V8 standard. The diesel is a choice across the range.

2500 questions, answered
Do I need a block heater on a Cummins Ram 2500 in Michigan?
It is a sensible option. Ram's Cold Weather Group is $245 and includes an engine block heater and a winter front grille cover. A diesel starts harder in deep cold, and a heater plugged in for a few hours makes starting easier and reduces wear. In milder Kentucky and Tennessee winters it matters less.
Is a 2500 enough for a fifth-wheel camper to the Smokies?
For many campers, yes. The diesel is rated for up to 20,000 lbs of towing, and mountain grades near Gatlinburg favor its torque. The limit to watch is payload, since a fifth-wheel pin weight is heavy. The Payload Upgrade Package, at $835, raises it to 4,580 lbs on HEMI trucks. Larger campers push buyers toward the 3500.
How much can the 2027 Ram 2500 tow?
For 2027, Ram's preliminary maximum is up to 20,000 pounds with the Cummins High-Output diesel and up to 17,740 pounds with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8. The exact figure depends on cab, drive, axle ratio and options, so check the 2500 towing chart before you buy.
What is the payload of the Ram 2500?
The 2500 with the 6.4-liter HEMI and the new Payload Upgrade Package can carry up to 4,580 pounds. The Cummins diesel tops out at 3,990 pounds, and the diesel Power Wagon at almost 3,000 pounds. All figures are preliminary.
Does the Ram 2500 Power Wagon come with a diesel?
Yes, starting with the 2027 model year. The Power Wagon can now be ordered with the 430-horsepower, 1,075 lb-ft Cummins High-Output diesel, which Ram says tows nearly 20,000 pounds. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 remains the standard engine.
How much does a 2027 Ram 2500 cost?
ramtrucks.com lists the 2027 Ram 2500 from $48,040 for the Tradesman Regular Cab, before destination. Big Horn starts at $51,790, Black Express $54,255, Warlock $57,585, Laramie $63,495, Rebel $70,940, Power Wagon $74,435, and Longhorn and Limited $75,505. Mega Cab Laramie, Longhorn and Limited start at $80,435, $92,735 and $92,735.
What is the difference between a Ram 2500 and a 3500?
The 2500 is the three-quarter-ton truck with coil-spring rear suspension, aimed at comfort plus strong towing. The 3500 is the one-ton truck with leaf springs, available with dual rear wheels and higher payload and towing ceilings, up to 37,020 pounds of towing with the diesel.
Is there a police or emergency Ram 2500?
Yes. The 2027 Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle is a fleet-only truck Ram describes as the first pursuit-capable three-quarter-ton pickup. It is sold to government and public-safety agencies rather than retail buyers.
